TALKING WITH THE EXPERTS

Two weeks ago we put our prognostications for the 2022 real estate market on paper – or, at least electronically – and some of our predictions might be considered bold and a bit out there.  

This week, we’re going to double down on some of those predictions – and we’ve brought in an expert on the Canadian real estate market to back up them up.

In March of 2020, our monthly team meetings not only shifted online, but to a weekly basis – and they’re anything but boring.  As restrictions have ebbed and flowed through the past two years, our team meets weekly to stay in tune with an ever-changing world and real estate market. Sometimes they involve open and frank conversations about how we best support our clients as conditions change on a dime, bouncing ideas off each other to collectively solve problems and find resources. Other times we celebrate our team’s accomplishments, chat over coffee, and brainstorm creative ways to find success for our clients in an ever-tightening market. And some of our favourite meetings involve bringing in experts from our industry, in an effort to keep our Realtors as some of the best educated agents in the local real estate market.

This past week was no exception.

We had the pleasure of hosting Shaun Cathcart, Senior Economist for the Canadian Real Estate Association.  Shaun is the statistical voice of CREA and is a highly respected expert in the national real estate market.

Shaun presented our team with the latest statistics and data that, in his opinion, clearly show where the real estate market in Canada is going, but also why it’s going in the direction it is.  

There were a number of a-ha! moments in his presentation, which we were fortunate enough to record and are happy to share it with you today.

Many of our readers are well-versed in the state of the local real estate market, and this 45-minute presentation is chock-full of novel insights for newcomers and real estate aficionados alike. Shaun discusses how demand is fuelled by rising immigration rates and a new generation of buyers, the type of new-build homes buyers actually need, and where he sees our local and national markets going in the coming year. Shaun clearly lays out the big picture trends, and hopefully you can see the opportunities and the hidden traps of this market.
