Time To Switch It Up

We’ve spent a lot of time over the past few months talking about the threats to our local real estate market and economy.  Given winter is almost over, I thought the time might be right to reset the energy and focus on some positive news for a change.

Early March is around the corner and it’s an ideal time to focus this week’s blog on the upcoming “College Royal” event at the University of Guelph. Celebrating its centennial anniversary, College Royal is a significant tradition that showcases the vibrant community spirit and academic excellence of the university.  It’s an event that showcases the immense scientific talent of Guelph and, yes, some of the cutest animals you’ll ever see.

Overview of College Royal

Established in 1925, College Royal has grown into a prominent open house event, attracting over 20,000 visitors annually. For a weekend each March, the university opens its doors to the public, offering a glimpse into various programs, research initiatives, and campus life. The event features exhibitions ranging from agricultural displays to scientific demonstrations, appealing to attendees of all ages.

It’s been a hit with the community for decades.  In fact, the College Royal Ball was the first time I wore a tuxedo.  The fact that it was a 3rd or 4th hand-edition picked up at a thrift store didn’t stop me from feeling pretty special that night!

Centennial Celebrations: What to Expect

This year’s edition of College Royal promises an array of special activities:

Historical Exhibits: Showcasing the evolution of the university and the event over the past century.

Alumni Reunions: Opportunities for past graduates to reconnect and share their experiences.

Community Engagement: Interactive workshops and demonstrations highlighting local initiatives and innovations.

College Royal’s centennial is more than a university celebration; it’s a testament to Guelph’s rich history and community engagement. For residents, it’s an opportunity to explore educational advancements, the cultural heritage, and the event underscores the city’s vibrant community life, which is a compelling aspect about our community.

College Royal- It’s kind of a big deal and has even been featured on the Rick Mercer Report. This March 15th and 16th is the annual open house. Grab the family and make a day of discovering what makes the University of Guelph and our city of Guelph a special place.

In the coming weeks, we plan to introduce and feature several local businesses and partners that, in our opinion, exemplify what it means to be Canadian and fiercely local.  I’m excited to introduce these entrepreneurs to you.

Thank you for your time this week.  The weekly sales report links are just below.

Have a great weekend,

Paul
